In 1974, Bob Cady started one of the first telecom companies in the Midwest after the breakup of the AT&T monopoly: Telephone Specialists. It began as a family company, created to install, repair, and maintain telephone systems and set itself apart through an emphasis on high-touch customer service. After establishing the Cady name in the telecom industry, the company eventually sold in 1986. With the departure of Bob Cady and the entrance of new management, the rest of the family became concerned about the long-term viability of the firm.
In order to continually grow the Cady name, the siblings started Cady Communications in 1987. The company maintained the foundation set by their father of unmatched customer service, this time cemented by a money-back guarantee. Cady soon grew to achieve significant success, ultimately growing to a team of over 50 employees. Then, In 1996, the company was sold to ATI Investment Group, to take advantage of the final step of the monopoly breakup. In 2000, Cady became Eschelon Telecom, which was then purchased by Integra Telecom in 2007.
In 2010, Dan left Integra and took an ownership stake in Reliance Teleservices with the desire to bring the Cady philosophy to their customers, eventually purchasing the remaining shares in 2012 and rebranding to Cady Business Technologies–once again resurrecting the Cady name. In 2016, Cady Business Technologies expanded its leadership team and welcomed as owners respected telecom veterans Jeff Anderson and Steve Simon–also hailing from the lineage of Cady Communications.
A more recent event was the acquisition of Telephone Specialists Incorporated (TSI) Eau Claire in the year 2022. TSI’s origins go back to 1979 when Bob Cady and close friend, Duane Digman founded TSI Eau Claire as a partnership. A number of years later Duane bought out Bob and sold the company to his daughter Pam. Pam successfully ran the company until 2022, when she retired and began to search for the next era of the company. The Cady team saw an opportunity and decided to come together with TSI Eau Claire to expand its reach to the Wisconsin market.
